Male, Behaviorism

Your character believes we learn by association — not only the classical ideas of things that precede an event, like how the smell of the kitchen predicts the meal to come so we can prepare to eat, but that things that happen after an event can either reinforce the doing of a particular behavior or reduce the likelihood you’ll do such a thing again. Using this perspective, teachers can control student behaviors by fostering clear links (contingencies) between things the students desire (e.g., tokens like stickers or coins that can be exchanged for other in-class goods) and behaviors the teacher would like students to exhibit.
